The epidemiological situation
The two years of the coronavirus
pandemic have had a strong impact on everyone and in all areas. Vaccines have
made the situation less tragic, but the provisional death toll is nearing 5.5
million. Alongside many restrictions, the introduction of the Covid green
certificate has been received with hostility by some, who view the move as restricting
their freedom, with many protests being held. On the other hand, in order to
deal with the economic consequences of the pandemic, the European Union set up,
through loans accessed by the European Commission, a recovery fund from which
member states can have access to grants and credits based on national recovery and
resilience plans approved by the European Commission. From an epidemiological
point of view, the situation is still uncertain, with the year-end being marked
by the much more contagious Omicron variant.
