Photo: Girchi press office.  Agenda.ge, 19 Apr 2021 - 15:42, Tbilisi,Georgia Three MPs of the Girchi party have signed, while Lelo has stated they will also sign the new proposal by the EU to solve the political tension in Georgia which began after the 2020 parliamentary elections.  The agreement released by the European Council President Charles Michel on the weekend offers a pardon for all violations and convictions stemming from the 19-21 June 2019 protests in Tbilisi and says that if the ruling party fails to receive at least 43 per cent of votes in this year’s municipal elections, they should accept the conduct of repeat parliamentary elections.

By Veronika Malinboym Monday, April 19 On Saturday, April 18th, the ruling Georgian Dream party agreed to sign the agreement which was first proposed by the EU mediator Christian Danielsson. The newly signed agreement addresses issues such as the large-scale reform of the judicial and electoral systems as well as the amnesty to the individuals whose had cases launched against them in relation to June 2019 protests in Tbilisi – including the opposition leader Nika Melia, who currently remains in detention. Following the signing of the document, speaker of the Georgian Parliament and member of the ruling Georgian Dream party Archil Talakvadze stated that by doing that, ruling party showed its high degree of responsibility, and added that it was now the opposition’s turn to show that “it can put the interests of the state above their personal interests”.
