Christa Barfield, owner and operator of FarmerJawn Agriculture, is kicking off a dinner series on Sunday, Jan. 22, with a five-course meal at Westtown School cooked by Chef Tonii Hicks. The event will raise funds for Barfield's partnership with the West Chester school, at which she is leasing 123 acres for organic farming and agricultural education purposes.
Philadelphia's FarmerJawn Agriculture, owned and operated by Christa Barfield, has been selected to lease 123 acres on the campus of Westtown School in West Chester beginning in January. FarmerJawn plans to use the land for organic farming, running a farm market and providing educational entrepreneurship opportunities to Black farmers.
"I worked 16+ hours a day and still had to go home and work because I have a family. So there wasn't enough time for me to sustain myself as well as do all the things for all the people. And I realized that one day while walking to work. I never will forget it. I sat down at my computer around 7:30 in the morning and started to read emails. I got to one from my boss and I started a new thread titled "Resignation." This is how Christa Barfield changed course from exhausted to excited.
