3 the city of asheville gives an update on the snow cleanup progress. News 13s Lauren Brigman joins us live from downtown. Lauren, city crews are now turning their attention to neighborhood streets . Right. Because we had so much snow, they have been mostly focused on main routes, especially those used by emergency responders. Now they are getting to those streets in your community. The citys Street Services division continues to work 24hour shifts to clear the roads. 3 3 they ask you to call them if you see large patches of ice or snow that need treatment by the city. Those numbers are 8282595852 or 8282511122. To help with snow removal, free parking was allowed inside the Downtown Parking garages. And today normal operations will resume for those. If you leave a parking deck anytime after ten this morning you will have to pay. Larry james and Heather Stepp were originally charged with manslaughter for the accidental shooting of Abigail Newman newman. Ashlea jerrika, they pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. Jerrika yes, they pleaded guilty to storage of a fire arm with access to children. The Authorities Say all parties agree with that plea deal. One of the guns were loaded on the table and i didnt know it. Reporter october 26th, that unspeakable tragedy happened. Abigail was two years old at the time and the wound was fatal. Very tragic situation. Reporter the toddler was accidentally shot by a shotgun the District Attorney says was left on a table. Sentence, thats suspended, of course. They have to pay a fine. More important to me was that the weapons confiscated by the Sheriffs Office in the case must be forfeited. Reporter while pleading guilty to a misdemeanor might get the stepps children back. Happens in just a little bit. Holly dot crews in Henderson County are asking people there for patience when it comes to clearing the roads. The dot has some equipment problems. Jay news 13s Lauren Brigman is live from the dot office on mt. Road in hendersonville and, lauren, those problems have left them short several trucks. Lauren yes, in fact, they have had lost five trucks since the beginning of this winter storm. So, they are down to 10 to use across the county. So its putting them a little behind when it comes to clearing roads. Our news 13 crews caught up with them a couple days ago to check in on the progress and as of yesterday they were making their way to those secondary roads. They hope to finish those yesterday and, in fact, we traveled across Henderson County this morning from mills river to flatrock and i can tell you roads like haywood road and Greenville County were looking good, just wet because we are seeing rain but the temperatures are above freezing. Fixes cost money. The city owns the building. Kim the city cant afford the multimillion tab alone. Repeat sources will be tapped. We use local government money. We had some corporate donations that helped us. And we had some private individuals who helped us. Kim stephanie brown, ashevilles convention and Visitors Bureau director oversees projects, awarded money and also involved in the auditorium task force. We will be naive not to talk about people about understanding thomas wolf will remain the same. Kim of course at this point, mike burke has no idea when the millions of dollars required for funding this renovation will be in place. But he says he hopes by this committee will have a plan.
