I have the pleasure of directing the institutes rinehart pergamon counterterrorism intelligence and i am very pleased to be joined here today by the acting director of the National Counterterrorism center, russell travis. Todays conversation is part of the ongoing counterterrorism lecture series. Russell took office as the acting director in august but its not his first, second or third time in the building. He told many other leadership positions in ctc including a director at the office of Data Strategy and innovation, chief data officer among others. Hes held positions at the office for Defense Intelligence agencies, National Security council, the u. S. Army, joint chiefs of staff so we are very thrilled that he has been able to carve time out of his busy schedule and spend some time with us today to talk about counterterrorism in the era of competing priorities. Kristen, as i understand, some neighbors indicate they have been complaining about issues there for a while. Reporter thats right. A few neighbors complaining that they had serious concerns about the retaining wall behind me that gave way last night, causing about eight to ten cars that fell 75 feet on to train tracks. One resident telling me she complained multiple times to the company that is responsible for the tracks, also to city officials. If you hear about significant damage, thats very unusual for okinawa and a sign of the intensity of this storm which is battering an area where more this a Million People live, including as you mentioned the u. S. Military personnel. The manager of the air bass put out an alert saying this is the worst storm to hit okinawa in 15 years telling everybody to take it very seriously, hunker down and to make sure to tie down loose object so they dont become deadly projectiles. Take a look at storm by the numbers, mentioned 125mileperhour winds. 600,000 people now under voluntary evacuation advisories. 100,000 people now without power. More than 100 flights have been cancelled leaving more than 14,000 passengers grounded.
