MV Rabaul disaster ‘top priority’ for government
PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, March 14, 2012) – The Commission of Inquiry into the last month’s ferry disaster is top priority for government and will be funded before week’s end, the government’s chief secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc said.
Zurenuoc said the commission had forwarded certain requests including a budget of K12 million [US$5.7 million] which the government was working on. This is unbudgeted expenditure so the money will have to come from somewhere, he said. There has been some delay because of that. Some other program will have to be sacrificed for it. But the people of Papua New Guinea must know that the government is giving the inquiry top priority and it will proceed.
