Good morning, im melissa harrisperry. Today politics of war. Our deeply divided congress will soon decide whether to give its blessing to American Military strikes against the syrian government. When president obama threw the decision to Congress Last week, he made a point of saying he was having the peoples representatives weigh in on whether to use military force. Now, we dont know what congress will do. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed its version wednesday. But we wont get a sense of how congress, the full congress, will vote until they return to washington this week. We do know what the American People want. They do not want this war. A Pew Research Center poll conducted last week found only 29 favor military airstrikes and 48 are opposed. A new gallop poll found more opposition. 51 said they oppose strikes. The public is opposed to war. A substantial argument against the strikes. But the thing is this. If we look back over our history, well see the public is often wr
Right now on Andrea Mitchell reports president obama speaks out on the escalating crisis in egypt. Let me say that the egyptian people deserve better than what weve seen over the last several days. And to the egyptian people let me say the cycle of violence and escalation needs to stop. After a violent government crackdown triggered clashes across egypt and left more than 500 people dead, president obama addressed the leaders in egypt, strongly condemning the interim governments actions. We deplore violence against civilians. We support universal rights essential to human dignity. Including the right to peaceful protest. Why oppose the pursuit of martial law which denies those rights to citizens under the principle that security trumps individual freedom or that might makes right. The United States has now canceled a joint military exercise with egypt scheduled for next month as that country now faces an uncertain future. Good day to you, im peter alexander, in for my friend today, and
New york, new york the city that never sleeps just got one more thing to keep it up at night. Because yesterday the thinkable happened. Two years after a tawdry sexting scandal chased him from Congress Anthony weiner is begging for forgiveness again. He continued to send lewd messages and photos to one woman after he was forced to resign from congress. Even after the sexting scandal, turns out he learned nothing. Trayvon martins father on capitol hill yesterday and Edward Snowden still playing tom thanks, stuck in a russian airport. Good day to you, im Peter Alexander wrapping up this week for my friend, Andrea Mitchell. Today tens of thousands of Muslim Brotherhood members across egypt are refusing to back down to the interim government guided by the nations military. Once again there have been deadly consequences there. Nbcs Ayman Mohyeldin, we want to get to him right away, he is live for us in cairo right now. Ayman, more casualties after what was already the worst mass killing in that countrys modern history. Before we ask you a thought about whats going on now, i want to show you a picture that struck us this morning. This was taken near alexandria, egypt, of egyptians on the beach there. Even as violence raged in the city behind them, we cant verify the person who took this shot. Nonetheless its worth showing because it provides some small window of normalcy and perhaps optimism. Are we heading into another weekend of violence . Peter, the short answer to that is yes, absolutely. Were looking at a death tol
