Meet Holliday Sims, Hochul s UB student using AI for good

Holliday Sims still can’t believe Gov. Kathy Hochul invited her to Albany to be recognized during her State of the State address January 9, when Hochul proposed a new $400 million academic consortium, Empire AI, to lead AI research and development in New York State. Hochul introduced Sims, a senior computer science major at UB, as an example of a young scholar who is using AI “for the public good,” researching how the child welfare system can better prepare youth in foster care for college and employment. “It was shocking to see my LinkedIn profile blow up” after Hochul’s speech, Sims said. “There have been a lot of people reaching out, and it feels like a dream and a blessing to me and my family.”
