The Winona train trestle destroyed by wildfire in August is expected to resume freight service later in October, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Many grain elevators have been left "stranded" by the loss of the trestle, according to WSDOT.
"In less than maybe 60 days, they replaced a 200-foot trestle over a creek bed," said Chris Peha, CEO for Northwest Grain Growers. "The state has done an absolutely wonderful job in their quick response."
