The mystery of a missing Berkeley man was solved nearly a month after he vanished while running in a rugged Pleasanton park when a volunteer searcher found a body Tuesday under a tree, about a quarter mile off the trail the runner had charted on an athlete’s app.
Pleasanton police said the remains are surely those of Philip Kreycik, 37, who on the morning of July 10 went for a run in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park on a day when temperatures reached 106 degrees. It was a run that would’ve taken him an hour, and when he didn’t show up for a family gathering that afternoon, his wife, Jen Yao, promptly reported him missing, prompting days and nights of exhaustive searches.

Volunteers continued searching Friday for a missing Berkeley man who vanished nearly a week ago while purportedly out for an eight-mile run at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park.
Two days after Pleasanton police and sheriffâs officials called off the official search for 37-year-old Philip Kreycik, friends and volunteers again met at Foothill High School to pass out flyers, continue searching the parkâs wilderness trails, and canvass the neighborhoods around it in the event Kreycik never went for his run.
Thursday evening, Pleasanton police Lt. Eric Silacci said that although officers were no longer searching, they were going over maps, looking for areas to possibly search in the future, and conducting interviews with Kreycikâs family and friends to learn more about the man. Kreycikâs car was found at the park, and Silacci said police believed Kreycik was either on the mountain, or âhe is somewhere else.â
