racial supremacy. when they squared off for that famous fight in 1938, 100 million were tuned in worldwide to hear this match set up as a confrontation between democracy and fashism. he enlisted a month after the attack at pearl harbor and became the face of a recruitment campaign encouraging black men to enlist in the army. was using his fame for what was a very segregated military. again and again, lewis shifted the conversation from america s record on race to nazi german s record on race. encouraging black americans to prioritize, destroying faticism first. he did his basic training in a segregated unit and spent the last of his recruitment fighting in exhibitions fights around the world. but despite his celebrity status, lewis was no stranger to humiliations that were experienced by black soldiers. segregated facilities, lack of resources, lack of opportunities for advancement. racial epithets being told to move to the back of the bus. the poster sets up sort of a perfec
