JANESVILLE
After missing prom, homecoming celebrations, normal sports and club seasons, and other high notes of the high school experience, Janesville seniors will get something this year: an in-person graduation ceremony.
The Janesville School Board this week unanimously approved a plan to host outdoor ceremonies at Monterey Stadium for Craig High School on June 3 and Parker High School on June 4. Both ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m.
Seniors at the districtâs charter schools will have indoor ceremonies in either the Craig or Parker auditorium June 5 and 6.
âWe know graduation is something that was a huge miss for our seniors last year. That was a hard thing for them,â Parker Principal Chris Laue said at Tuesdayâs meeting. âI speak as a principal and as a parent of a senior, that was something that was a huge loss for them.â

Janesville seniors won’t have to miss out on their graduation ceremony because of the pandemic this year.
Parker Principal Chris Laue and Craig Principal Alison Bjoin presented a plan to hold the ceremonies safely to the School Board Tuesday night.
The School Board unanimously approved hold the Craig ceremony on June 3rd and the Parker ceremony June 4th, both at 7:00 at Monterey stadium. There would be no option to move the ceremonies indoors and each student would be limited in the number of guests that can attend.
The events will be live streamed online as well.
