Nebraska Red-White Spring Game: What to watch

These are players I’ll be watching closely: QB Heinrich Haarberg – The Kearney native may have the best arm talent on the team. RB Gabe Irvin – The freshman could be Nebraska’s most complete back right now. WR Omar Manning – Will the talented JUCO transfer put on another show in front of the fans? WR Samori Toure – The Montana transfer broke a Randy Moss playoff record. How many others on NU’s roster can say something like that? TE Austin Allen – The staff feels like he’s one of the top overall players on this roster right now. OLB Pheldarius Payne – He has arguably made the biggest jump of any player from last season.

Five new faces to watch during Nebraska s Spring Game

April 29, 2021 Saturday’s annual Red-White Spring Game will feature plenty of familiar players back on both sides of the ball for Nebraska this year. But a handful of new faces have emerged this spring as potential names to keep an eye on going into the season. Here are five Huskers to watch that could make some noise during NU’s spring game… Wide receiver Samori Toure. (Tyler Krecklow) Samori Toure, WR, Jr. Samori Toure arrived at Nebraska this winter, expected to live up to a high bar. The 6-foot-3 senior wide receiver transfer from FCS-level Montana joined the Huskers with the expectation to push for a starting job this season immediately and to possibly emerge as the No. 1 target.

Luke Reimer continuing rapid rise in Nebraska s defense

April 19, 2021 At this time a year ago, the word was starting to get out about a walk-on inside linebacker out of Lincoln (Neb.) North Star making people take notice during spring practices. Now, Luke Reimer has established himself as a fixture on Nebraska’s defense. Even though injuries limited him to six appearances and five starts last season, Reimer still posted 40 tackles and ranked third on the team with 5.0 tackles for loss and second with 2.0 sacks. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound third-year sophomore is now firmly cemented in the Huskers’ inside linebacker rotation with a chance to secure a starting job in 2021.

Northern Iowa LB transfer Chris Kolarevic fitting right in this spring

You can go several different routes when trying to find a player in the transfer portal. The most common is probably finding former highly-ranked recruits that don’t work out at the school they signed with. However, another route that appears to be successful is finding productive players from the FCS ranks with proven stats and accolades that want a shot at the top level of college football. Nebraska added two of those players this spring in Montana All-American wide receiver Samori Toure and Northern Iowa’s leading tackler from 2019 – linebacker Chris Kolarevic. Both Toure and Kolarevic appear to be in the mix to earn starting jobs this spring. In NU’s first scrimmage on Friday, there were multiple highlights shown of Toure, including a touchdown in the back of the end zone.
