Last year’s physical collection of the classic 16-bit shooter Turrican series might be mightily appealing for fans, bundling 10 Turrican games with art books and CDs, but at nearly £80 for the whole lot it was pretty expensive. So it’s nice that ININ Games have decided to release a digital version at a lower price, albeit severely cut down in scope.
The Turrican Flashback collection contains four games, the Amiga versions of Turrican and it’s sequel, plus two pseudo sequel / prequels, Mega Turrican for the Sega Mega Drive and Super Turrican for the SNES. They are all direct ports of the original games without any new graphics options or improved sound. They’re all exactly the same as they were thirty years ago and depending on your age that’s either going to be a good or a bad thing.

16-bit home computer retro games are welcome on the PlayStation 4, especially as there has not been an abundance of Commodore Amiga games available, with a few exceptions being versions of Another World,
GODS Remastered, and Shadow of the Beast. Therefore, it s particularly pleasing to have the first two classic Amiga Turrican titles presented in their original 16-bit sprite splendidness in the Turrican Flashback Collection s four game pack.
The four European-style run-and-gun games included in Turrican Flashback are early examples of Factor 5 s games developed in Germany, so alongside the two aforementioned Amiga titles are two games released on 16-bit consoles with the 1993 release of Super Turrican on the SNES, and the 1994 Mega Drive/Genesis game, Mega Turrican. While these console games have previously been available on the Wii s Virtual Console, the first two Amiga Turrican games have not been ported to modern consoles before.
Turrican Flashback launches on Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4
Every gamer of a certain age will remember the great shoot ’em up that was Turrican and its successor Turrican II. Gamers on the old 8 bit computers and the Amiga and Atari ST loved the fast paced action and the absolutely brilliant soundtracks by Chris Huelsbeck. Now, thanks to ININ Games, gamers on Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch can enjoy the
Turrican Flashback collection.
Turrican Flashback is available both as a physical boxed edition and digitally from the relevant stores and features four classic titles:
Turrican
Mega Turrican
This collection features a fully reworked control scheme making them more accessible than ever before and also a brand new rewind and save function giving more chance to complete the game without having to leave the device on throughout the night (this did happen). Players are also able to customise their experience with a variety of different display options.
