Flotsam & Jetsam: Backyard treasure hunting and fish from above By Jim Carter A family in Torrance, California, found themselves dealing with unwanted guests last week when several hundred migrating birds, uh … dropped by, swooped down their chimney and took up residence in their living room while they were out. What’s more, they apparently didn’t want to leave and made quite a mess of things. The owners had to build a chute leading out the back door. (Nice place, folks; we’ll take it.) The COVID restrictions imposed on personal contact have hurt the Christiansburg, Virginia, Girl Scouts’ effort to sell their famous cookies this year, especially with deliveries. To the rescue: Wing, a drone company that has teamed with the Virginia Skyline Council to help alleviate the problem. The girls prepare the packages and handle the logistics, but don’t actually pilot the drones. (That’ll come next.)

Apr 20, 2021 A group of magnet fisherman found an unexpected catch at the bottom of the Grand River that led to the Grand Rapids Bomb Squad getting involved. Ryan McCollum was magnet fishing near the Sixth Street Bridge with his son and cousin Chris Hample. Hample pulled a 2-foot-long artillery shell out of the water. Magnet Fishermen Find Explosive in Michigan River I don t know much (or anything) about magnet fishing but if it involves possibly finding explosives, sign me up. A group of local magnet fishermen were fishing for what they call rustic treasures in the Grand River in Grand Rapids. While fishing, they pulled up a first-ever find for the group. According to WoodTV, Ryan McCollum said he was magnet fishing off the Sixth Street Bridge in Grand Rapids Saturday with his 8-year-old son Lochlan and cousin Chris Hample.
