The dozen-strong army that will represent South Africa in the rugby sevens competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has been named. The battle-hardened trio of Justin Geduld, Branco du Preez and Chris Dry headline the final list of 14 selected by SA Sevens coach Neil Powell. The trio of Springbok Sevens stalwarts will bring 199 tournaments worth of HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series experience to the team. The squad was announced as part of the last contingent of athletes travelling to fly the South African flag in Japan in a couple of weeks. Du Preez and Dry – who went to the 2016 Rio Olympics as travelling reserve but did not get a chance to play – are South Africa’s most experienced World Series players, with 75 and 74 tournaments respectively. Geduld has played in 50 World Series tournaments.
