The Canadian Brass Gerry Mullligan Zoot Sims - Swingtime (14 tracks) +Album Reviews

(5 out of 5 stars) This CD is wonderful!!! I play jazz and I know when a group swings or not, and the Canadian Brass swing like crazy. This CD is a must for anyone who enjoys listening to jazz. Don Sebesky, Luther Henderson, and Chris Dedrick are the writers who arranged all these great well known charts. Its save to say that all the original artists would have okayed all of these arrangments of these classics! Ranging from Stan Kenton to Duke Ellington. It s amazing how The Canadian Brass can play both jazz and classical, they are by far the best brass quintet out there. They make there music fun, and thats what counts. They make it fun to listen, but at the same time they make it professionally musical. The CD features the Canadian Brass all stars who are picked jazz musicians by the Candian Brass. The Canadian Brass plays along with them making an awesome big band that swings like non other. If you love Jazz this CD is a must!!

Enoch Light: An appreciation

Enoch Light: An appreciation Enoch Light: An appreciation by his grandson, singer-songwriter Jon Klages. Plus a premiere of the Klages song, The Fabulous Twilights. Author: My Grandfather, Enoch Light: An Appreciation By Jon Klages For many music aficionados, the name Enoch Light is synonymous with Bachelor Pad Music, innovative stereophonic recordings that featured bongos ping-ponging from speaker to speaker as a combo laid down exotic jazz-lounge sounds. Others know him as the producer of the early Free Design records which, decades after being lost in the mists of ’60s pop, are now recognized as some of the most influential vocal-group albums of the era. And some, while not familiar with Enoch Light’s music, see in their mind’s eye the bold graphics on the gatefold covers that contained LPs released by his Command Records and Project 3 labels, remembering them from their parents’ record collections, or from scavenging moldering bins at garage sales.

Under The Radar - Record Collector Magazine

/ 25 February 2021 847 Views If ever a band qualified for Under The Radar it is surely 60s family group and purveyors of sunshine harmony pop and exquisite easy listening, The Free Design – seven albums in five years, plus several singles, yet never enjoying the huge commercial success of other sibling-centric acts such as The Beach Boys, The Cowsills, The Jacksons or The Osmonds. Not that there’s a juicy story of sibling rivalry and Svengali parents here: on the contrary, the Dedrick siblings enjoyed a genuinely loving and happy family support network. Art Dedrick nurtured a love of music amongst his six children. He had been an arranger and trumpet-player in Vaughn Monroe’s band and he encouraged his brood to take up musical instruments and sing in choirs. He was always enormously loving and supportive.
