Police and city bylaw workers have started working under the same roof as social workers and mental health support workers in downtown Prince George, B.C.
The Community Safety Hub is a two-floor office building at 2nd Avenue and George Street, in an area of town where people dealing with homelessness and addiction tend to congregate in order to access support services.
The city hopes it will give front-line workers a place to collaborate and come up with better ways of working on shared issues connected to homelessness, addiction, mental health and poverty.

Gardeners’ green fingers raise healthy new Hospice total
Winning in Waiwera – Ōrewa Garden Club members at their successful Harbour Hospice fundraiser.
They say a change is as good as a rest, and that was certainly the case for Ōrewa Garden Club’s recent annual fundraiser for Harbour Hospice.
After seven years at Hilary Ashcroft’s Ōrewa home and garden, the club moved out of town to the hills above Waiwera for this year’s event and ended up raising $1360 – almost double the usual total.
The day was held at Dee and Lloyd Farrand’s property and included a floral hat parade, raffles, a shared lunch and a plant stall. Club treasurer Linda Mellor said she was amazed when she totted up the total raised by the 35 women.
There hasn t been a new apartment in the Hart in a long time. There has been new apartments in College Heights and the Bowl, but not the Hart, Kidd said. We feel there are a lot of people who are looking for these kinds of suites, but want to stay in the Hart. Kidd said his company has built a number of housing developments in the Hart area, with secondary suites included. The demand for those suites is astronomical, Kidd said. We had a new owner, within a day he had 50 people who wanted to rent (his) suite. Kidd s company will be going before city council in the coming weeks to seek a rezoning to allow the development on the roughly-triangular, 16-acre parcel of land located behind the existing homes on Chief Lake Road, Sparwood Road and Greenwood Street. Access to the apartments would be from a road connecting to Chief Lake and Sparwood roads.
