The Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) expects to formally authorise real estate investment trusts (REIT) within the year, in a move to boost the real estate and construction sectors, which have attracted a flurry of investment in recent years, according to its director-general Sou Socheat.

The calls followed a January 6 sub-decree which established new towns and districts in Kandal, Kampong Speu and Kratie provinces.
Industry insiders have reported a surge in real estate activity in the new towns recently established by the government in Kampong Speu and Kandal provinces. Last month, the government divided Kampong Speu’s Oudong district into two, creating Oudong Me Chey and Samaki Monichey districts.
