It’s Like “Pennies From Heaven”

The Teton County Board of Health, meeting Dec. 16 via video conferencing software, discussed the space needs of the Teton County Health Department, which has outgrown its office located on the Benefis Teton Medical Center campus in Choteau.
The board also discussed the health departmentâs pandemic response and when COVID-19 vaccines are likely to arrive in the county.
Health Department Director Melissa Moyer said she has spoken with the county commissioners about the need for more space, and the county has accommodated her needs by providing part-time office space in the county courthouse for the departmentâs chronic disease program manager.
With a few modifications for the 40th year of the tradition, the Choteau Elementary School fourth graders made gingerbread houses on Dec. 17.
Fourth-grade teacher Rachel Christensen said keeping safety in mind, the school made the needed adjustments so the students wouldnât miss out on the tradition that was started by fourth-grade teacher Mary Cornett in 1980.
âThe students were limited to one parent or helper instead of two and no younger siblings were allowed to join the fun,â Christensen said. âThe two classes were divided and spread out in both the cafeteria and classroom.â

With a continued rise in COVID-19 cases in Teton County and a strong desire to keep students learning in school, many school districts have made major changes to annual Christmas concerts.
Choteau Elementary School will not hold a Christmas program this year. The elementary students will make Christmas cards and art to be distributed throughout the community. Choteau music teacher Rose Carlson will share Christmas music with the students as they work on their cards and artwork this holiday season.
The Power School District music department will present Christmas programs this year, but the concerts will be different in delivery. To limit crowd size, the school district is asking only two parents from each family attend the concert.
