The Fairfield City Council met last night with all members present. The "hot button" item for the night was the understaffed Fairfield Police Department. The department is down to 6 officers and the Chief, with one of the officers leaving for a military assignment very soon. Mayor Gary Moore proposed an Intergovernmental Agreement with Wayne County which would have Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies cover law enforcement for the city of Fairfield when necessary. In the agreement, the city would pay the county $50.00 per hour for the coverage but only the hours actually providing city coverage. Mayor Moore stated that he had met with Chief and Sheriff regarding devising a plan to maintain coverage for the city. Alderman Cody Atteberry stated that he hadn't been made aware of the proposal until he received his meeting documents. He further stated that he thought the matter was being rushed and deserved more study. The annual tax levy was unanimously approved. The levy 4.

The District V Ag Education Career Development Event was held on Tuesday, December 6th at Mt. Vernon High School. Students participating submitted a lesson plan, prior to the event, that they would teach to an Introduction to Agriculture Education class. Participants then presented a ten minute segment of their designed lesson to a room of students while the judges observed. The individuals participating were scored on their lesson plan, delivery of lesson as well as follow-up questions in addition to their provided reflection and a written test. Chloe Iles, from Edwards County FFA, participated in the competition. She received 8th place. She also competed in the Section 23 Ag Education CDE and placed in 2nd. Congratulations to Chloe! BOLO Please be aware that the Wayne County Sheriff's Office is currently searching for a white male wearing a muddy Carhartt style jacket and jeans. Subject appeared to be in his late 20's to early 30's and is approximately 5'10" tall. Subject was last seen on foot in the 1800 block of County Highway 7. Subject is wanted for questioning in regards to a stolen vehicle and loader tractor out of Clay County. If spotted do not approach subject, but call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 842-6631 or 911. The Fairfield City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening with all alderman present. The annual Appropriations Ordinance was unanimously approved after a public hearing prior to the council meeting. The appropriation stands at $28,720,000.
