Aita Gurung is charged with first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the attack on his wife and mother-in-law more than five years ago in Burlington. The jury deliberated for about six hours on Monday without reaching a verdict.

A Connecticut man was arrested on Wednesday following a weekslong investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the Burlington area, the Vermont State Police said in a press release. Devontrez Flowers, 26, of Hartford, Connecticut, had been the subject of an investigation involving the Northwest Vermont Drug Task Force, according to the release. Police said Flowers was arrested Wednesday night after he led police on a brief foot chase down Church Street. The Burlington Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted with the arrest. Flowers’ arrest was related to police activity at 88 North Street on
Police said Abdiaziz Abdhikadir, 19, showed “extreme indifference for human life or the safety of the overall community” in other instances of gunfire in which he has been charged.
