Lakes are heating up ahead of schedule, but the wind is making it tough to fish, but If you can find clear water, you should find hungry brown trout, lake trout, and maybe a coho or king.
The New York Power Authority Fishing Platform and the other NYPA fish facilities have opened for the season, ahead of the traditional April 1 schedule.
Action had been good for trout until late last week, but then some nasty weather took over and anglers are looking toward smaller tributaries and creeks until conditions start to clear up.
Perch, crappies, bluegills, bass, and pike are still feeding in the bays, and with medium flows and slightly stained water color, steelhead are active in the streams.

After being cancelled last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual Chittenango Lions Club Walleye Derby on Oneida Lake is a go for this coming weekend.
The two-day fishing contest, as it’s been doing for more than four decades, will mark the opening of the state’s walleye fishing season.
“We’re up and running. Selling lots of tickets. People seem to be very enthusiastic,” said Bruce Hall, the derby chairman.
