The key fronts have something to worry about on the outcome of the battle for Perumbavoor constituency.
The vote share of the United Democratic Front (UDF), the Left Democratic Front (LDF), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slipped compared to the 2016 Assembly elections. Congress candidate Eldhose Kunnappilly’s vote share dipped from 44.11% to 37.1% this time despite managing to secure the constituency by a reduced margin of 2,899 votes compared to the lead of 7,088 votes in 2016.

Twenty20 seems to have taken a share of traditional Congress votes in constituency Fears that the apolitical Twenty20 may foil the chances of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Perumbavoor faded after Eldhose Kunnappilly of the Congress won the electoral battle by 2,899 votes.
Mr. Kunnappilly will represent the constituency for the second consecutive time after he topped the list with 53,484 votes. In 2016, he had defeated Saju Paul of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) by a margin of 7,088 votes. However, Mr. Kunnappilly’s overall lead went down to 2,899 votes this time. Chitra Sukumaran, the Twenty20 candidate, seems to have taken a share of the traditional Congress votes after she won 20,536 votes to come third in the race. T.P. Polling went off peacefully in the three largely rural constituencies of Ernakulam Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, and Perumbavoor with the segments recording 73.31%, 76.54% and 76.04% votes respectively, as on 7.10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Interestingly, 74.48% voters from Penganchuvadu tribal colony in Perumbavoor exercised their franchise even before 5 p.m. It was 80.39% at Thalumkandam booth in Kothamangalam, yet another remote forest locale in Ernakulam.
There were average or below-average queues in most booths in the three constituencies, where the popularity of the candidates of the corporate-backed Twenty20 has been giving sleepless nights to the three traditional fronts.
