East London Olympian s precious gold medal found — in gutter

The owner and staff of an East London garden service company have been praised after recovering two of Olympic legend Joan Harrison’s stolen medals from a gutter in Southernwood. Harrison, later Joan Breetzke, became an international hero when she won the 100m backstroke event at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Finland, as a 16-year-old.
