GLOBALink | Chinese mountain messenger known as horseback postman dies Xinhua 31 May 2021, 19:30 GMT+10 CHENGDU, May 31 (Xinhua) Wang Shunyou, commonly known as a Chinese mountain messenger on horseback postal routes, died of illness on Sunday at the age of 56 in Muli County, southwest China s Sichuan Province, according to the source of the Sichuan branch of China Post Group Co., Ltd. Wang inherited his father s mail delivery job in his mountain-locked hometown in southwest China 36 years ago. He spent more than 300 days a year trudging across the sparsely inhabited area, delivering mail in outlying townships. People might associate the horseback postal route with ancient messengers who rode swiftly on horseback. But the reality is far from the romantic scenario.
