Downtown San Diego Opens First Block of 14th Street Neighborhood Greenway

Last week, the city of San Diego opened the first segment of a planned 11-block neighborhood greenway in its Downtown area. The 14th Street Greenway Project will extend 11 blocks from C Street to Commercial Street. Five other greenways will be located along Eighth Avenue, Cedar Street, E Street, Island Avenue and Union Street. The “first block” that opened last week is located on 14th Street between G Street and Market Street. “These welcoming greenways are inviting and safe and create a much-needed walkable space for the Downtown community, which is forecasted to double in size in the next two decades,” Mayor Todd Gloria of San Diego said in a statement. “Spaces like this encourage residents to get out of their cars, which helps us achieve our climate-action goals. I look forward to creating more projects like this across our city.”

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Mayor Todd Gloria Thursday celebrated the completion of the first block of 14th Street Greenway project, a $2.08 million urban greenspace project along 14th Street in East Village. Once completely implemented, the 14th Street Greenway will extend 11 blocks from C Street to Commercial Street. It is the first of six interconnected greenways along 14th Street in East Village. The five other greenways will be located along Eighth Avenue, Cedar Street, E Street, Island Avenue and Union Street. “These welcoming greenways are inviting and safe and create a much- needed walkable space for the downtown community, which is forecasted to double in size in the next two decades,” Gloria said. “Spaces like this encourage residents to get out of their cars, which helps us achieve our climate-action goals. I look forward to creating more projects like this across our city.”

Boyhood adventures

Tales from the ONO Ranch, Wellington, Colo. I was an adventurous lad at 10 years of age. I’m not sure where my older brother was all this time or what he was doing. I think his interest was more studious than my own and he read a lot. My summers were spent in the pasture either riding ol’ paint or just hiking through the pasture to discover “whatever.” Most times I could catch a lizard or shoot my homemade bow and arrow at a cotton tail. There was this one time when I did hit that rabbit much to my surprise, and it carried my arrow under a yucca plant. Most folks called the yucca plant Spanish Daggers because of the sharp unbending spines that protruded up and out. My first thought was just reach in there and grab that rabbit and retrieve my arrow and I almost did.
