About 40 community members gathered under the Dragon Gate in downtown Santa Cruz and walked to Evergreen Cemetary in Harvey West to honor their ancestors and the Chinese pioneers who once lived in the city in an ancient Chinese holiday known as Qingming, which is meant to mark the coming of spring and honor deceased relatives.
A new mosaic mural dubbed "Dancing Waters" was unveiled at the River Front garage Wednesday afternoon. The mosaic, which tells the story of water's endless dance, was sponsored by the city of Santa Cruz and designed by local artist Maha Jumaie Taitano with support from the Watsonville-based Community Arts and Empowerment, led by longtime community artist, Kathleen Crocetti.
