The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that China has made it clear that the unmanned civilian airship that flew over U.S. territory was "an unexpected and isolated event".
The United States has communicated with Beijing on the alleged Chinese surveillance balloon shot down on February 4, after Pentagon overtures were rebuffed for days, a defence official said Sunday.
Colombia's Air Force said the object with "characteristics similar to those of a balloon" was detected on Friday and "monitored until it left the national air space."
A US decision to shoot down a balloon Beijing claimed had veered off course has "seriously impacted and damaged" relations between the countries, China's foreign ministry said Monday.
