China names former navy commander Dong Jun as the country's new defense minister, state-run media says, after Li Shangfu, who had held the portfolio, was removed from the post in October amid speculation over his involvement in a corruption case.
Li is the second senior Chinese official to disappear this year, following former Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who was removed from office in July with no explanation offered.
Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu has been removed from his post, according to the country's state media, nearly two months after he disappeared from public view.
