canadian mounted police. what a tragic event, knowing it s the son of one of our police officers. our understanding is that it was with a vehicle in the northern part of british columbia. it appears they may have been shot at that location. reporter: fowler s family saying they re on their way to canada to bring their boy home and to lose someone so young and vibrant who was traveling the world and just enjoying life to full is devastating. while deese s older brother posting on facebook, his family has spent if hours working with the u.s. embassy and investigators and that china and lucas lives were abruptly taken from a random act of violence while starting their road trip through canada. royal canadian police say as of now the investigation is still in its infancy, and they re not sure if deese and fowler were targeted or if it was a random attack. however, they don t believe right now there is any public safety risk.
