China paused releasing unemployment figures for the 16-24 and 25-59 age groups this week, with hundreds of data series released by statistics bureaus at different levels of the government having already been discontinued in recent years.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said that starting from this month July it would no longer be releasing age-group-specific breakdowns of unemployment data as it reconsiders how it measures data.
China’s economic recovery remained uneven in July, while Beijing said it would stop publishing the jobless rate for 16-24 age group from August, citing the need to improve labour statistics.
