we talk about how much democrats are going to applaud. i m going to welcome at republicans tonight as well. there are a lot of republicans who do not want him to call for a national emergency. they think it s the wrong choice. all indications are eventually, he will do that. do you think, gloria, the speech tonight will change the needle at all as far as the border security negotiations are concerned? you know, our hill team is reporting that behind closed doors, the border negotiations are going very well, if you left it up to members of congress, republicans and democrats, maybe they could cut a deal. the question mark is what is donald trump going to? what would he sign on to? he is in a box. there s a wall or slats or whatever you want to call it. that s what he wants. if those negotiators don t come out with $5.7 billion for what he wants, he is kind of dug himself in. that s the big question. will he sign on to something? will he declare this national

what we see with our own eyes, relates to a shutdown and a possible breakthrough. that is still tb d. to echo kelly o donnell, rose garden events don t happen. if the president is beginning to speak, there are indications that could happen. it could have something to do with the potential for a deal on reopening the government. here s a couple of pieces of information we don t know. we don t know what this deal specifically might look like. we do know from our hill team that it is more likely that mitch mcconnell speaks after president trump speaks if that is, in fact, where this afternoon is going. we don t know what the style of the remarks or what president trump will be doing. is it just a speech and then he leaves? is it a sort of impromptu news conference, andrea? two weeks ago we had one of those out in the rose garden on another chilly winter day, so it is possible the president may take some questions from those of us who will be assembled out there and there are a lot of ques
nod. it was intimidation. the thing to keep in mind is, it worked. it worked. michael cohen does says he doesn t want to testify because of that intimidation. that s what s so remarkable about this. dana, you know congress will they can still go ahead, the leadership, and subpoena michael cohen and force him to come back. they can. our reporting from our hill team is they might. the question though maybe jeffrey can answer this or others who are familiar with the legal underpinnings of this. my experience on capitol hill is that if a witness is subpoenaed to come and testify, they can use their invoke their fifth amendment right. i don t know we would get to that point with somebody like michael cohen. but if he is that nervous, either legally or whatever else he thinks is a threat to his
