Santiago, May 15 : Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris has called on citizens to maintain protective measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 during the landmark polls slated to take place on Saturday and Sunday.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, he said: (We must) always maintain self-care measures, use a mask, wash hands with soap and water, use hand sanitizer, keep physical distance and, of course, carry your own blue pencil, since these are the most effective measures to avoid new infections, Xinhua news agency

SANTIAGO, May 11 (Xinhua) More than 7.2 million people in Chile have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Ministry of Health said Tuesday.
Some 7,209,187 people, roughly half the target population, have received both their shots, while 8,657,885 have received the first dose of the vaccine, the ministry said in a statement.
According to Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris, 3,010,336 people aged 60 and over have participated in the mass immunization campaign that began on Feb. 3 with the inoculation of the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
Paris urged the public to continue to participate in the vaccination process, which this week targets pregnant women with underlying medical conditions and those aged 39 to 35.

SANTIAGO, May 7 (Xinhua) More than 7 million people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Chile after receiving both doses as part of the country s mass inoculation campaign, the Ministry of Health said on Friday.
Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris said in a statement that 7,067,635 people have received both doses while 8,454,068 others have got their first jab.
Of the target population of 15,200,840, 55.6 percent have received their first jab and 46.5 percent their second, Paris said.
As of Friday, Chile had reported 1,235,778 COVID-19 infections with 27,004 deaths. Enditem

Santiago, May 2 : Chile has surpassed 1.2 million cases of Covid-19, Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris announced on Saturday.
The official said that in the last 24 hours, another 6,469 new cases of Covid-19 were registered, bringing the total to 1,204,755, of which 1,136,816 have recovered, the Xinhua news agency reported.
Additionally, another 104 deaths from the disease were reported in the last day, bringing the total to 26,457.
Paris stated that the Magallanes region in the southern part of the country has seen a 5 per cent increase in cases in the last seven days.
