president. because with barack obama there was always that political line, oh, he wants to take away all your guns, he s anti-second amendment. donald trump, pro second amendment, so maybe donald trump, and again i don t want to be pollyanna here, would have some more success in saying, okay, more string engt background checks or, you know, raising the age limit. i mean one of the students there was saying i can t buy a beer, i shouldn t be able to buy this kind of a gun. maybe that will change. maybe it gets nibbled at around the edges. donald trump is not going to propose an assault weapons ban. that s not going to happen. it s got to be somebody like donald trump who had the benefit of more than $30 million from the nra. exactly. let s see what, if anything, emerges. a truly extraordinary moment in american history right now. we ll see what happens. as we count down to cnn s town hall tonight on guns and school violence, students are demanding
wie re all feeling very traumatized. i think is a good word. we re feeling scared. i know that we all had a sleepover last night and none of us could sleep. i woke up in the middle of the night and i stared at articlely and she w ashley and she was awake and we woke up because we had nightmares of someone killing us with a gun. children shouldn t be having these thoughts. children shouldn t be scared of these things. s it is note room abo right. you re right. how are you doing a, ashley? i guess we re doing as okay as we can. i think what is helping us is how well our community is coming together. i think that we all have to just keep in mind while wire doing all of these types of discussions and everything is that we re doing it for the kids
we as a country fame kucountry children. this shouldn t happen. we go to the airport, i can t get on the plane with a bottle ev of water. but some animal can walk into an animal and shoot our children. it is just not right. and we need to come together as a country and work on what is important. and that is protecting our children in the schools. that is the only thing that matters right now. everyone has to come cotogethers a country .not different parties. and figure out how we protect the schools. it is simple. it is not difficult. we protect airports. we protect concerts. stadiums. embassies. the department of education that i walked in today that has a security guard in the elevator.
children shouldn t be separated from their parents. i don t understand it. especially with a region that has multiple families from different countries. it makes no sense. brothers and sisters and neighbors live all their life with us. why? reporter: no one knows how or when the crisis will end, leaving thousands of families like this one living in limbo. george, this is the story of one family, amnesty international released a report with so many more stories of families going through just this, they re calling on saudi arabia, the emirates and bahrain to respect human rights and stop toying with people s lives. real people being effected by this, jomana. we understand mixed messages
side, cuellar and cornyn and the far right rank of this discussion, all of them are in agreement the 2008 law needs to be revised, all of them are seeking faster deportation. are they all wrong? i think all of us are seeking for a swifter route to justice. and so that means that these children shouldn t have to wait years to have their case processed. and so for them to have an opportunity to be represented and have their case heard, i believe the president made it pretty clear today when he met with many of us from the hispanic caucus that what he is looking for is the means to be able to work through these cases so these children have their day in court. soy don t think the president is asking us to strip due process. what i do believe he s saying is, we must act and act swiftly, because we can t continue to see a humanitarian crisis on our border persist. do you think that this debate has brought out the best or
