On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, various organisations working for children in the state have called for collective action to end child labour, maintaining that employing underage children was also child labour and punishable.
DIMAPUR Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontal Railway (NFR) has successfully rescued 42 persons including 36 minors, two mentally retarded men, two women and two girls during checking conducted from May 16 to the 22nd at different trains and railway stations. RPF also apprehended two persons involved in human trafficking. A NFR press release issued by the chief PRO, Sabyasachi De, informed that the checking were conducted at different locations in Katihar, Purnea, Barsoi, Kumedpur, New Bongaigaon, Rangiya, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Mariani, Tinsukia, New Jalpaiguri, New Tinsukia and Dimapur railway stations. It stated that all the rescued persons were later handed over to the respective childlines as per norms for safe custody and family members after proper verification. On May 22, RPF of Katihar along with Meri Saheli team conducted a drive at Katihar railway station and rescued one run away minor boy. A two-year old child, who reportedly went missing on April 8, was rescued by Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) on Monday and later handed over to Childline Dimapur.
