credit payments, universal pre-k, immigration reform. none of these issues have been discussed or dealt with. what do you and your colleagues do to try and address these issues? that s where i think we have to tell people that we actually have the american people with us on every one of the things that was on your list. and we did a lot in putting them into the build back better bill, and i m proud of the progressive caucus because there wouldn t have even been a piece of legislation where we hashed out the details of what universal child care, universal pre-k, pieces of immigration reform we could get done, what would those look like. now we have that. but, unfortunately, we re missing just a couple of senators in the senate to be able to pass it. we just don t have quite enough votes. but we ve made a massive step forward in really articulating these priorities as the mainstream priorities for not
the wealthiest and all of this so americans can have more opportunity and believe that government works for them. so it s a great day for us. i m really thrilled to be voting yes on this bill. you have told nbc news you are, quote, heartbroken other priorities didn t make it into the bill. that includes child care funding, child tax credit payments, universal pre-k, immigration relief, how do you make sure those are addressed in the future? will there be another opportunity to pass anything with those items? absolutely. that s the work, i think, that we need to look at as a country. that we have done in the last year. we really built the record. we built the legislation. it is all drafted and it had 99% of democrats in the house and senate behind it. it s the president s economic agenda. and i believe with just a couple more democrats in the senate, holding the house, we will be able to pass it early in the
means wealthy. right. because there s more of those people than already of the super rich, and i think a lot of the money that they re hoping to get is in these sort of pass-through organizations, those small businesses, could be a couple lawyers who have an office together. the other point that i think bears making is that democrats want the irs at the same time that it s failing to do its job as kim says, not answering phobe calls from taxpayers, they phone calls, they want to turn it into a social spending agency. recall that summer when we had these monthly child tax credit payments that came out, and there was the controversy that the only way to control hem was to send the i are rs your face scan through some facial recognition software through a third party. and that s, i think, one of the big questions that deserves to be asked, is why don t we get an irs that can first do the job that it s designed to do which is collect taxes from people and leave it at that? if jen ger
