we re back now with an nbc news investigation about child labor laws, as more states change the rules about when, where, and how much kids age 14 to 16 are allowed to work. here s stephanie gosk. reporter: the freedman movie theater outside des moines is ramping up for a big summer. but finding workers has been a struggle. we used to have stacks of applications now, we might have two or three. reporter: that s why the theater s managers say he and others like him in the service industry fought to change the state s child labor laws, making it easier to hire teenagers under 16. a lot of the part of the iowa code that dealt with child labor was written as far back as 1906. reporter: he helped to get a new law passed. i think this is really more about giving the students an opportunity if they want to, if they can work, a few more hours for one or two evenings. reporter: iowa s new child labor law
