St. Jude Thaddeus devotional group has a new banner for their pilgrimage around the diocese

SALT LAKE CITY – In the Roman Catholic Church, St. Jude Thaddeus is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes. A group of Utah Catholics devoted to the saint began congregating 11 years ago to celebrate a Mass honoring the saint on the 28th day of each month.
In 2010, the St. Jude devotional group started going to the old St. Jude Maronite Catholic Church in Murray and praying a rosary to the saint.
“Monsignor Bill [Bonczewski], who back then was the pastor there, opened the doors to us,” said Martin Alcocer, a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Madeleine who has a devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus.
Father Hernando Diaz 50th Anniversary of Ordination

MIDVALE – A blessing from the pope marked the 50th anniversary of priesthood ordination of Father Hernando Diaz.
Father Diaz, who was born in Cairo, Colombia, was ordained a priest on April 17, 1971 by Monsignor Jose Gabriel Calderon, Bishop of the Diocese of Cartago, Colombia. He was invited to Utah by the Most Rev. William K. Weigand, seventh Bishop of Salt Lake City. With the authorization from his bishop in Colombia, Fr. Diaz arrived in Utah in 1984.
His first assignment was as a parochial vicar of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Midvale. Then he was assigned as administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Salt Lake City, where he stayed for seven years. Clothing giveway planned
Grace’s Closet at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria St., Bellwood, will host a clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 13. Spring clothing will be available, as will fall and winter clothing. Those attending are asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Food pantry open on Fridays

Fish fry dinners available
St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, Altoona, will hold Lenten Fish Fry Dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent through March 26, at Father Kelley Hall on 25th Avenue and Fifth Street.
The menu includes choice of baked or fried fish, choice of two sides and dessert. Cost is $10 per dinner. Curbside order and delivery service will be from the side door on Fifth Street.
