A massive fire burning at a Winston-Salem fertilizer plant has prompted an evacuation of residents in the surrounding area. Fire crews began fighting the blaze at Weaver Fertilizer Plant at 4440 North Cherry Street around 7 p.m. Monday.
The building is 80 years and governed by the code in place at the time of its construction – “grandfathered in” as exceptions to updated and modern requirements.
