Electrical issue causes fire, closes school in Southport on Friday

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) - A fire was reported in the main building of Southport Christian School Thursday evening.
Assistant Fire Chief Todd Coring said one firefighter was transported to Brunswick Novant due to heat related issues.
“Approx 50 firefighters worked to control the blaze,” said Coring. “The cause appears to be an electrical issue in the ceiling where the fire was reported. The employee who called 911 explained seeing smoke from the ceiling inside. After calling 911 flames were visible from the roof. Nothing suspicious found at this point.”
