HONOLULU (AP) - Roughly 20% of Honolulu’s 4,500 first responders have received the Moderna coronavirus vaccine, city officials said.
Hiro Toiya, the city’s emergency management director, said that 936 first responders received their shots Tuesday and Wednesday. Honolulu Police Department officers represented 649 of the vaccines, 173 vaccines were given to firefighters with the Honolulu Fire Department and 114 vaccines were distributed to paramedics, emergency medical technicians and lifeguards with the Department of Emergency Services.
Between 60% to 70% of first responders are expected to receive the voluntary coronavirus vaccine, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honoluluâs police chief and a number of first responders rolled up their sleeves Tuesday to get vaccinated as part of a push to boost confidence in the shot among the public.
The event comes as Hawaii seeks to quickly distribute the limited number of doses distributed to the state.
First responders, health care workers and those living in nursing homes have been identified as the highest priority for the vaccine. In a separate event Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Josh Green â a physician â got the vaccine.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - With so much uncertainty swirling around the coronavirus vaccine, many people have been vocal about their choice to not get vaccinated just yet.
In a meeting with the Honolulu Police Commission Wednesday, Chief Susan Ballard said sheâs among those that will likely pass on getting the shot â at least for now.
The Honolulu Police Department sent a survey to officers asking how many plan to get the coronavirus vaccine.
