Michael, 23, from San Antonio, Texas, wanted to be a police officer ever since he was a child. He said the observance showed him that nothing about law enforcement is routine.

Police Chief Scott Ervin said while it is important to remember those who have made the sacrifice, it is just as important to be a reminder to current officers. Any day, any shift, any time, we can be called upon to also pay that sacrifice in protection of our community, Ervin said. There were several guest speakers at the observance, including Jesse Nelson, who is running for mayor of Lynn Haven. The guest speakers described how proud they are of the men and women who have sworn to protect and serve their community.
