BREWSTER A large charcoal smoker caused a fire at a home on Tubman Road early Monday morning.
The Brewster Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1:35 a.m. Monday on 101 Tubman Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a smoldering, 12-by-12 foot section of a wooden deck attached to the back of a house, the department said in a statement.
The homeowner and members of the Brewster Police Department had partially extinguished the fire before the firefighters arrival.
The deck and the smoker were wetted down. Fire Chief Robert Moran and Deputy Chief Kevin Varley also responded to the scene, and several off-duty Brewster firefighters returned to headquarters to cover additional responses.
