When Dan Herback hangs up his chief’s helmet for the final time April 30, he will miss the people he met during his 30-year career with the City of Pembroke and Pembroke Fire Department.
The camaraderie among firefighters was what first drew him to the job. He served as a volunteer firefighter for nearly two years before becoming a full-time member of the department in 1992. He worked his way up the ranks before being promoted to chief in 2008, when he succeeded Chief Rheaume Chaput.
