Seventy-five tons of sand is being molded to the likeness of local military heroes.
For over 25 years, the Edgewater Mall in Biloxi has brought in sand sculptors from Florida to create rather massive works of art inside the mall.
They’re working on the ‘Salute to the Armed Forces Sculpture’ which pays tribute to local military.
Our local Navy is being represented with a sculpture honoring builder Chief Petty Officer Raymond Border. He was killed over 10 years ago in Afghanistan. BUC Border was from Ohio and attended Builder-A School in Gulfport.
For those who had the opportunity to work alongside him, this is an opportunity to show that those who pay the ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten. Seabee Base Command Master Chief Michael Lopez said, “I think we owe it to him and others who are not able to be here today to remember them and never forget them. That was my piece in this that I knew him and he worked for me and we worked together
