Monterey city officials, in a press release Monday, stated they have accepted the resignation effective Dec. 30 and will select an interim fire chief in the “upcoming weeks”. According to the city, Panholzer has worked in the fire service for over 45 years. He was hired as Monterey’s fire chief in 2013, was fired and rehired in 2017, and has remained in the position since.
