Suspect Killed After Standoff with Police, Officer Wounded

By City News Service Mar 17, 2021 LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles police killed a man who shot and wounded an officer today about a mile north of USC after an hours-long barricade standoff. Los Angeles Police Department officers, including a SWAT team, responded about 12:15 p.m. to the 1000 block of West 21st Street, near Toberman Street, after reports of a man firing a rifle into the air in the backyard of a residence, according to Chief Michel Moore. Officers responding to the scene spoke with the man s family members before evacuating them from the area and surrounding the residence. Officers and family members attempted to persuade the man inside the residence to surrender, but he refused. Police then deployed tear gas into the residence in an attempt to force him to surrender, Moore said.
