PRESTON, Md. – Maryland State Fire Marshal investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that left one dead early Monday morning.
We’re told the fire broke out at around 1 a.m., in the 21000 block of Wood Wharf Road in Preston. Officials say a neighbor reported the blaze.
Local volunteer fire departments responded to the scene and placed the fire under control quickly. The estimated loss of the property is approximately $150,000.
At this time, Maryland State Police are assisting with the investigation due to it being a fatal fire. The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing. The victim was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Center for an autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and exact cause of death.
