Police say thieves stole purses, credit cards and driver’s licenses in two smash-and-grabs at Irwin Park this weekend.
A wallet, cash and iPhone 11 also were stolen in the larcenies from vehicles parked at Irwin Park, reported to police at 3:28 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release issued by Chief Leon Krolikowski.
“The front passenger side window was smashed on both vehicles to access the valuables left inside,” Krolikowski said in the release. “The owners of the vehicles were using the park while the crime was being committed. Upon returning to their vehicles, they noticed their front passenger side window had been smashed in.”

A Fairfield County police department is restarting its community impact team in an effort to reach out to citizens and deter crime in the downtown area.
The New Canaan Police Department announced on Tuesday, Jan. 5, they were restarting the Community Impact Officer initiative, said Chief Leon Krolikowski.
Beginning this month, Officer Kelly M. Coughlin is assigned as the department’s newest Community Impact Officer and she is assigned exclusively to the downtown area, Krolikowski said.
Coughlin has been with the department for more than five years and has served in the patrol division and is a dispatcher.
Police say three pistols and a shotgun were reported stolen Monday morning in an apparent smash-and-grab from a locked vehicle in a Michigan Road driveway.
Police at about 10:57 a.m. on Dec. 14 were dispatched to the Michigan Road home on a report of thefts from two vehicles parked in the driveway, according to a press release issued by Chief Leon Krolikowski.
Among the items stolen from a locked car whose passenger-side window was broken were .22, .32 and 9-millimeter caliber pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun, all locked in a gun case inside the vehicle, the press release said. A money clip, cash, fishing rods and reels and sporting equipment also were stolen. Cash was taken from the other vehicle in the driveway, which was unlocked, the press release said.
